List fields (choices)

A Choose from a list field gives people a drop-down of set options instead of a free-typed value — for example a Result box offering "Pass", "Fail", and "Needs review". You build that list of choices when you add the field.

Add your choices​

For each choice you enter:

  • Label — what people see in the drop-down (e.g. "Pass").
  • Value — what gets saved behind the scenes. It's often the same as the label; keep it simple unless you have a reason not to.
  • Colour — an optional colour for the choice, so it stands out (handy for things like Pass = green, Fail = red).

Type the label and value, pick a colour, and click Add. The choice appears in the list, and a small preview shows how it will look. Remove a choice with the ✕ next to it.

A couple of settings​

  • Max items — tick this and enter a number if people should be limited to choosing only so many options.
  • Allow custom values — turn this on if people should also be able to type their own value when none of the choices fit.

A default choice​

Once you've added choices, you can pick one as the field's Default — the option that's already selected for a new entry.

tip

Keep the list short and the labels clear. If you find yourself adding lots of options, it's a sign the information might belong in its own object that you link to instead.
