Test & logging

Before you rely on a new template, try it out — and afterwards, use the log to confirm what actually went out.

Test in the Playground

The Templating Playground (Admin → Content distribution → Templating Playground) lets you write a template body against real data and see the result straight away, without sending anything. It's the safest place to get placeholders and formatting right before you paste the body into your export template. The Templating guide walks through the language itself.

A good rhythm:

  1. Draft the body in the Playground until the output looks right.
  2. Put it into your export template and keep the template Enabled off.
  3. Run it on one real record (for example the export button on an invoice) to check the finished document.
  4. Switch Enabled on.

Check the logging

The Content distribution logging overview (Admin → Content distribution → its logging overview) records each export and send: what was produced, where it went, and whether it succeeded or failed. When something doesn't arrive, this is the first place to look — open an entry to see the details and any error message.

tip

A failed send on an invoice also shows a red banner with a link straight to this log — see the Invoicing guide.
