Tariff matrices

A tariff matrix is a lookup table of bands (brackets). Instead of one fixed price, the fee depends on which band a value falls into — for example pilotage priced by draught, or a fee that steps up with vessel size.

A matrix belongs to a tariff whose Amount source is set to Matrix (see Tariffs). The tariff's Amount source template points at the matrix to use.

The columns

Each row in the matrix is one band:

  • Name (required) — a label for the band.
  • System code (required) — the band's internal code (filled from the name).
  • Amount (required) — the amount charged when a value falls in this band.
  • From (required) — the lower edge of the band.
  • To — the upper edge of the band. Leave it empty for the top, open-ended band.
  • Amount template — an optional template to calculate the band's amount instead of a fixed figure.
  • UI template — how the band's result is presented.

Add a row per band so the bands together cover the whole range you expect (for example 0–5,000, 5,000–10,000, 10,000+).

Import and export with Excel

Building a big matrix by hand is slow, so the matrix card has a Download button to export the current table, and an import option to bring a table back in. The usual flow is: download the matrix, fill in the bands in Excel, then import it. This is by far the quickest way to enter or update a large set of bands.

tip

Make the bands continuous and non-overlapping — each value should fall into exactly one band. Use an empty To on the final row so anything above the last threshold is still priced.
